This Week in Student Privacy: 6/16
Oregon Student Privacy Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk
Last week, the Oregon House of Representatives “passed a bill...to protect personal information of K-12 students shared online.” The bill “easily sailed through the Oregon Senate in April,” and “now goes to Gov. Kate Brown for her signature.” If passed, “the Oregon Student Information Protection Act will bar operators of online educational tools – such as textbook websites or services such as Google for Education – from selling students' information or using it for targeted advertising,” and also prevents operators from using “student information to create student profiles or disclose it to third parties.” Full text of the bill here.
