John Collins works on public policy issues emerging from financial technology, with a special focus on digital currencies and blockchain technology. He is passionate about driving democratizing, innovation focused public policy agendas from the local to supranational levels.
He is the co-founder of the First State Fintech Lab, a holistic, community-driven non-profit focused on fostering the financial technology ecosystem in the state of Delaware. The 'Lab' focuses on novel public-private partnerships, workforce curriculum development, and diversity initiatives. He is a Partner at FS Vector, a strategic consulting and advisory firm serving financial technology companies across the globe.
John is the former Head of Policy for Coinbase, the world's largest digital currency company. Prior to Coinbase, he served as Senior Professional Staff Member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for Chairman Tom Carper (D-DE). Mr. Collins was the Chairman's primary advisor on emerging issues related to digital currencies and blockchain technology, leading the first Congressional hearing on the subject in the fall of 2013.
